Knee Pain Physical Therapy in Overland Park, KS

Your Knee Can Fix Itself.
We Show It How.

In our 60-minute Knee Performance Evaluation & Treatment, you’ll leave with answers, hands-on treatment, and a real plan to fix your knee pain.

This Is For You If…

  • Your knee hurts during runs, squats, or workouts – and it’s not getting better.
  • You had a knee surgery, completed your rehab, but something still isn’t quite right.
  • You’ve been told it’s just “wear and tear” or something you’ll have to live with.
  • Stairs, getting up from a chair, or kneeling down has become painful.
  • You want to avoid surgery and explore every option before going that route.
  • Your knee swells, locks, or gives way – and you’re not sure what’s going on.

What’s Included in Your Knee Performance Evaluation & Treatment.

This isn’t a generic PT appointment. At our Overland Park clinic, you’ll get a thorough knee assessment, hands-on treatment, and a clear plan forward – all focused on fixing the root cause of your knee pain, not just managing it.

Physical therapist teaches a knee exercise at TrueFix Physical Therapy in Overland Park, KS.
  • Strength and Mobility Testing
We test the specific strength and mobility patterns that contribute to knee pain – so we know what your body can handle today and what needs to be built up.
  • Functional Movement Assessment
We watch how you move – squat, lunge, and other loading strategies – to connect the dots between your movement and your symptoms.
  • Hands-On Treatment
Depending on what we find, treatment may include dry needling, cupping, or joint and soft tissue work targeted at what’s actually driving your symptoms.
  • Your Personalized Plan
We put everything together into a clear, actionable plan specific to your body and your goals. No generic advice. No cookie-cutter exercises. A real path forward starting from day one.

Common Knee Pain Conditions We Treat.

Knee pain shows up differently for everyone. Whether you’ve been given a diagnosis or just know something isn’t right – we can help. Here are some of the most common conditions we see at our Overland Park clinic.

Runner’s Knee
(Patellofemoral Pain)

That dull, achy pain around or behind your kneecap that flares up during runs, squats, stairs, or prolonged sitting. It’s usually a sign your knee and hip haven’t built the strength to handle what you’re asking of them. We build that capacity so the pain stops coming back.

IT Band Syndrome

Sharp or burning pain on the outside of your knee that shows up during your workouts and forces you to stop. IT band syndrome isn’t a stretching problem – it’s a loading and strength problem. We address the real cause so you can get back to training without it coming back.

Patellar Tendinopathy

Pain at the front of your knee just below the kneecap – especially during jumping, squatting, or loading activities. Rest might calm it down, but it won’t make the tendon stronger. We use a progressive loading approach to build tendon capacity, so you can get back to what moves you.

Meniscus Issues

Whether you have a diagnosed meniscus tear or just pain and stiffness that hasn’t been fully explained – we assess the full picture. Many meniscus issues respond extremely well to the right conservative care without needing surgery.

ACL & Ligament Injuries

Whether you’re in the early stages after an ACL injury or years out from surgery and still not feeling right, we work with you wherever you are in the process. Our goal is to get you back to full strength, confidence, and function.

Post-Surgical Knee Rehab

Finished your insurance-covered PT after knee surgery but still not back to full function? You’re not alone. We pick up where others left off and get you the rest of the way there.

What People in Our Community Are Saying

I was a mess. I had pain just walking across the room. Pain in my knee and back kept me from swimming and riding my bike—the two things I love doing and that have helped keep me healthy and active. Yesterday, I did the swimming and biking portion of a team triathlon. Need I say more? Josh at TrueFix was a master therapist. He put a game plan together and worked with me to get it done. If you’re looking for a physical therapist, you owe it to yourself to give the folks at TrueFix a try.

I went to Josh for preventative care and coaching as I prepared for my first ultra-marathon. The strength training routine and troubleshooting he provided during our in-office visits kept me injury free from my earliest miles to post-event. Josh was always available to answer questions and went the extra mile in providing solutions. Their entire staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and there to cheer on progress. Whether recovering from an injury or trying to take your physical goals to the next level, I can't recommend TrueFix enough!

I had been to other physical therapists for past injuries and had mediocre experiences with what felt like a very generic rehab plan that checked insurance boxes. This place focuses on the bigger picture (a foundation of health with my health/physical goals in mind) and has helped me stay strong and pain free to continue doing the things I care about, from home renovations to my most recent triathlon.

At the beginning of the year I thought I might actually need to give up running, or that I would need surgery or a ton of time off to do so again. I went to Josh though and he identified the issues and set up a plan to address it. I could tell Josh knew the science and was highly qualified but I also trusted him because of how he could relate as an athlete/fellow runner. It took some time, patience, and lots of work under Josh’s guidance, but 7 months later and I have run more mileage than ever before, feeling zero issues now with something that had been nagging for years. I am so grateful that I can go to Josh and for what he has done for my running!

I have struggled with persistent shoulder pain since high school, and after just one session with Eric, my shoulder felt better and had more mobility than it had in years. Eric and his colleagues are personable, attentive, and kind. It is clear that the practice as a whole truly cares about their clients, and wants to help them achieve their goals. I would highly recommend them to anyone in need of physical therapy!

8 years ago, I had ACL and meniscus root repair surgery on my knee. The years that followed were a struggle. I suffered from discomfort, stiffness, and pain not being able to run or compete the way I wanted to. In 2025, I started working with Eric Vargas and I can confidently say, this is the best my knee has felt since surgery. We started with incremental wins, working on mobility and strength. As we continued to build momentum, I pushed the knee squatting, jumping, and ultimately running (something I was not comfortable with for years). Now, I am comfortable running 3 miles on a regular basis. Eric’s expertise and approach gave me the confidence I was looking for to reach my goals. Thank you Eric and TrueFix for leading me on this journey. Pumped to keep improving. Let’s go!

I totally trust Dr. McNiel. He's so knowledgeable, calm, kind, and listens asking all the right questions. I had bad neck and back pain from sleeping weird that wouldn't go away. I waited longer than I should have before asking for help. The day after seeing him, it already had improved. He gave me some stretches to do at home to continue the improvement. Highly recommend.

Dr. McNiel at TrueFix is great! I’m a fitness instructor and had been dealing with low back pain for years, and not much helped until I started working with him. He helped figure out what was likely causing the pain and put together a plan that really worked. I feel so much better now—can’t recommend him and TrueFix enough!

Above and Beyond Care After struggling with tennis elbow that kept me from my weightlifting routine, I cannot say enough about the exceptional care I received from my physical therapist Josh. From our very first session, Josh demonstrated not just professional expertise, but genuine concern for my recovery and long-term health. What sets him apart is his comprehensive approach. Rather than simply treating the immediate pain, they took time to understand my fitness goals and how weightlifting fits into my life. Each exercise was explained clearly, with patient demonstrations delivered daily in my email after sessions in person. Most impressively, they went well beyond treating just my elbow. They offered valuable insights about overall mobility work, nutrition tips to support tissue healing. These additional elements have become integral parts of my health regimen and have improved my overall well-being. Thanks to their expertise and dedication, I'm back to lifting weights pain-free, with better form and a more balanced approach than before my injury. I'm deeply grateful for a physical therapist who treats patients as whole people rather than just injuries to fix.
