Ankle Pain Physical Therapy in Crossroads, Kansas City

Your Ankle Can Fix Itself.
We Show It How.

In our 60-minute Ankle Performance Evaluation & Treatment, you’ll leave with answers, hands-on treatment, and a real plan to fix your ankle pain.

This Is For You If…

  • Ankle pain flares up during runs, jumps, or quick changes of direction.
  • You have Achilles pain that flares up with activity and won’t fully resolve no matter what you try.
  • You’ve been told to tape it or wear a brace, but you want an ankle you can trust on its own.
  • Your ankle gives way on uneven ground, trails, or cutting movements.
  • You’ve sprained your ankle in the past and it’s still weak, unstable, or prone to rolling again.
  • Your ankle feels stiff or blocked, especially at the bottom of a squat or lunge.

What’s Included in Your Ankle Performance Evaluation & Treatment.

This isn’t a generic PT appointment. At our Crossroads clinic in downtown Kansas City, you’ll get a thorough ankle assessment, hands-on treatment, and a clear plan forward – all focused on fixing the root cause of your ankle pain, not just managing it.

  • Strength and Mobility Testing
We test the specific strength and mobility patterns that contribute to ankle pain – so we know what your body can handle today and what needs to be built up.
  • Functional Movement Assessment
We watch how you move – squat, lunge, and other loading strategies – to connect the dots between your movement and your symptoms.
  • Hands-On Treatment
Depending on what we find, treatment may include dry needling, cupping, or joint and soft tissue work targeted at what’s actually driving your symptoms.
  • Your Personalized Plan
We put everything together into a clear, actionable plan specific to your body and your goals. No generic advice. No cookie-cutter exercises. A real path forward starting from day one.

Common Ankle Pain Conditions We Treat.

Ankle pain shows up differently for everyone. Whether you’ve been given a diagnosis or just know something isn’t right – we can help. Here are some of the most common conditions we see at our Crossroads clinic.

Achilles Tendinopathy

Pain and stiffness at the back of your ankle – especially first thing in the morning or after activity. Rest might calm it down, but it won’t make the tendon stronger. We use a progressive loading approach to build tendon capacity so you can run, jump, and train without it flaring back up.

Ankle Sprains

Whether it just happened or you’ve rolled the same ankle multiple times – how you rehab a sprain matters more than most people realize. Getting it right the first time prevents the chronic stiffness, instability, or repeated injuries that follow a poorly rehabbed sprain.

Chronic Ankle Instability

That feeling of your ankle being unreliable – rolling on uneven ground, giving way during activity, never quite feeling stable since an old injury. We identify what’s driving it and rebuild the strength and neuromuscular control to fix it for good.

Ankle Stiffness or Impingement

Limited ankle mobility, stiffness that won’t loosen up, or a sharp pinching sensation at the bottom of a squat, lunge, or jump. Restricted ankle mobility is one of the most overlooked contributors to pain up the chain, affecting your knees, hips, and back.

Peroneal Tendon Issues

Pain, weakness, or a snapping sensation on the outside of your ankle, especially during activity or after an ankle sprain that won’t fully heal. Peroneal tendon issues are often overlooked and mismanaged. We assess the full picture and build a plan to restore strength and stability.

Ankle Pain From Running or Training

Ankle pain showing up during runs, jumps, or agility work? Your ankle may be lacking the mobility, strength, or stability to handle what you’re asking of it. We find the gap and build it up so you can keep training without it coming back every time.

I was preparing for a trip of a lifetime to Peru but my right hip threatened to spoil my planned hikes. I found TrueFix and Nate Vargas and in 4 short weeks he had me ready to roll. The trip and the hikes were fabulous! I highly recommend Nate and TrueFix.

I’ve been to a couple of different physical therapy offices, but this one is by far my favorite! Eric and Nathan are both incredibly knowledgeable and personable. I’ve been working with Nathan for the past year, and my appointments are always tailored to my specific physical needs and focused on addressing the pain I’m experiencing. I truly appreciate all of their help, expertise, and the way they always make me feel so welcome. I’m so thankful to have found such a great team!

I cannot say enough positive things about my experience with Nate! With my pain being up and down depending on the week, he always meets me right where I am. Besides being incredibly knowledgeable, his kind personality makes every session feel personal and well thought out. Over the past few months, Nate has helped me better manage my pain levels and has given me the confidence to get back to doing the activities I enjoy. He takes the time to listen, and will adjust treatment based on how I’m feeling. I’m so grateful for all of his help and would highly recommend Nate to anyone looking for someone who genuinely cares about their patients’ progress.

I’ve had an excellent experience with TrueFix PT and Nate. Nate is knowledgeable, thoughtful, and takes the time to understand what’s actually contributing to an issue rather than simply treating symptoms. He explains what he’s seeing clearly, answers questions thoroughly, and provides practical exercises and strategies that feel tailored to my goals and activities. I’ve really appreciated his professionalism and the quality of care I’ve received. I would absolutely recommend Nate and TrueFix PT to anyone looking for attentive, individualized physical therapy.

Nate is an exceptional physical therapist. His knowledge, attention to detail, and ability to explain things clearly made a huge difference in my recovery journey. After struggling with confidence in my knee/ACL stability, he helped me rebuild not only strength, but trust in my body again. Every session felt purposeful, encouraging, and tailored to what I needed. On top of that, he’s genuinely easy to talk to and makes the entire process enjoyable. I can’t recommend him highly enough.

Just got home from my appt with Nate and it was absolutely phenomenal. He answered all my questions, explained everything and made sure I felt competent in what he has in mind for a treatment plan now and going forward. Finding out, that as one gets older, it’s the little issues that add up. Especially when you’re trying to regain previously lost ground, as far as your physical health and performance is concerned. A pain here, an ache there and then the questions start. Is this normal? Should this even be an issue at this point in life? Nate took his time, listened, asked all the right questions and had the answers that are right for me, my life and goals. This is the best of what I had thought PT was supposed to be.

When I met Eric last year, I had been dealing with recurring lower back injuries for over 10 years. My back pain dates back to 2012, and I was stuck in a frustrating cycle: I’d get hurt, stop working out for 2–3 months, start to feel better, return to activity, and then inevitably get hurt again. It felt like I was constantly managing setbacks instead of making real progress. What stood out immediately with Eric was his philosophy. Previous providers told me to simply avoid the exercises and activities that hurt my back, but those were the activities that were part of my life and things I enjoyed. Avoidance never felt like a real long term solution to me. Eric took a completely different approach. Instead of telling me to stop all together, he helped me build the strength, stability, and resilience needed to safely return to those activities and sustain them long term. Since working with Eric, I’ve seen major improvements not only in my pain levels, but in how quickly I recover and how confident I feel in my body. Recently, I had a lower back tweak that would normally have sidelined me for months. This time, I was pain-free within a week. That kind of recovery would have been unthinkable for me before, and I credit it to the durability and foundation I’ve built through his guidance. He’s also helped me completely reframe how I think about training and longevity. It’s no longer about pushing until something breaks and starting over—it’s about building a body that can handle life and stay strong for the long term. Furthermore, the scheduling system, email reminders, and use of the TrueCoach app make it easy to stay consistent and know exactly what to do. Communication is easy and Eric is always accessible when I have questions. I’ve recommended TrueFix to multiple friends and family members, and they’ve all had great experiences as well. If you’re dealing with chronic pain, recurring injuries, or want to build a stronger, more resilient body for the long term, I can’t recommend TrueFix Physical Therapy enough.
